Recently I performed a dance form of belly and bollywood style  for the school assembly. The name of the song i performed was Sheila Ki Jawani for  3 mintues on stage. At the beginning i was feeling nervous because it was the first performance i gave after my knee injury. to start of i didn't pratice at all because i was sacred not knowing what will happen to my leg. since i have praticed the dance to this song few months back the choregraphy was stored in my head. the day before the dance i took a risk to pratice once and know how my leg is doing, luckily my knee was stronger because of the exercises i do. i was feeling really happy for the fact that i can bring myself on stage once again without any fear.

The dance went quite well. the cheer and the motivation from the audience was incrediable. emotionally i was feeling better.

the dance moves for the performance was taken from the music video of sheila ki jawani. Most of the dance moves was taken from the music video. Here and there i added some of my own moves so i can be careful with my leg and not do anything that might cause pressure to my knee.


after the performance i was requested to help in other projects in dancing. By Ms. Wolf, i was asked take student leadership in belly dancing for next semester. i thought this can be a good chance to spread to other students what i know about belly dancing and help them perform a good dance. for next semester i will be one of the students leaders in belly dancing as for an program in elective.

For Community in Service

For the past two weeks as a group we did some productive things in order to help the dimentia patients. We collected food for 3 months for the dimentia center, where all the patients are going to stay. I think we did a really good job helping them because to get money for the food is a hard process. i was happy the fact that the school students and teachers really supported us throughout the whole process of collecting food.

For next semester we have planned to have session where we all will give a way something special to us, so we can bury it underground and open it in 2030. I'm thinking this will be a good idea for something to rememeber that we liked ages back when we open in 2030.

4/11/2011


Yesterday for community service we had a guest speaker to introduce about dementia. She gave an insight to prevent, kinds of symptoms and how to be responsible from dementia. The whole presentation was very powerful because we actually learnt about why we are spreading awareness around Sri Lanka. After the presentation we discussed about how we can meet patients who are positive with dementia. We will be meeting the patients hopefully this month at the Alzheimer center and during the Christmas tea party to spend time with them.

20th Octorber 2011

I'm blogging after few weeks and during these weeks many things have been done. For MUN the school commitee and myself organized few activities to educated the students about children rights on the days of UN day. every wendesdays I got together with several other students and planned an activity to edcuated the school students. we decided to show the students a powerpoint on the history of children rights, afterward break into 5 groups of 4 and choose 5 important children rights and make a skit of it. later to have a interaction with the class about what they have learnt about.

on the UN day I was partnered up with one of my class peers Nadeera. Together we handled 22 students from grade 8 to 10. at the beginning it was a bit hard to control the class and we both were feeling nervous. Again without hesitating i began presentig the presentation and nadeera kept on clicking to the next slide and we also exchanged and nadeera also presented the presentation. afterward as we divided into groups the students came up with skits to perform to represent one right, they overall it a very good job, the time and the what the skit all together fitted perfectly according to the acitivity.

As for physical activites, i have been going to the gym 3 times a week. by now my gym instructor introduced me to new excerises and the number of times i have to do each. By now im doing excerises for my legs, chest, shoulders abodomens and for my hips. for a week so far i have been working out for 9 hours. it's tiring but at the end i feel fresh and my knee feels stronger and gets better.

For community Service, for the moment we stopped the activity due to vacation, but we planned after school starts we will organize an acitivty where people will make a time capsule regarding the people the love and bury the memories under ground, so when years past they can dig in and regain memory. we thought this can be one of the perfect acitvity for Alzehimers

22nd of Setempber, we had the walk for Alzheimer. the Alzheimer group of OSC went to Cinnamen Grand Hotel to help the community to spread awarness. As a group memeber i helped selling T-shirts for Rs. 750 and christmas cards for Rs500.

For the walk many adults and  teenagers from schools particpated through out the whole occasion, which was a proud moment for the Alzheimer 's community.

I was glad to help them sell off many T-shirts as possiable because at the end we collected alot of money for a good cause. 
Apparently i didnt partipate with in the walk because of my knee,  meanwhile i helped to sell more T-shirts and give our bronchurs to let people know what Alzheimer is all about. Honestly i was feeling happy to contribute to a such a important community that could make a change in the future in Sri Lanka.

15th of September 2011 
Looking back at what i have done this week, i have realized i have a done a lot of productive activities. Monday and Wednesday i attended the gym for the first time! I was really excited because i love being active as a person. i have not dance for nearly 4 months, therefore this was a good work out for me. each day i was in the gym for 2 nearly 2 hours. I started going to the gym for my knee especially for my knee exercises. This week i started on cycling, workout for the cardiac muscle and some abdominal exercises. I'm suppose to do much more but the gym instructor asked me to start off doing the easy exercises so there is no sudden pressure for my knee.  i was glad to join the gym because it kept me active and fresh. 

On Wednesday after school i attend MUN (Model United Nations). most of the students wanted to a delegate or a committee member. it was only me who wanted to me an admin. while everybody was doing their research and since i didnt have much work i was too researching on recent global news. the recent news around the globe is frightening i thought. there's so much happening and we are informed with few, unless we do the research by ourselves. i think being in MUN will keep a track of real life obstacles that people and a country goes through around the world.

8th September 2011 

Today the Alzheimer group, visited the day care center. patients who are positive of Alzheimer are allowed to spent a day in the center and do many activities as possible. the center will be officially opened by the 21st of September. toward the end of the session we got the tickets for the walk that's going to be on the 24th of September. i got a 3 ticket books and each had 10 tickets. During the next few weeks i will be selling these tickets to people inside and outside school to spread awareness for the Alzheimer community. overall Im happy that I'm a part of this group because we were promised to be taught by the volunteer doctors to test for Alzheimer, so we can visit the center and test for patients who have Alzheimer. Im really looking forward for some good moments during the whole project

1st of September 2011
I started service program. I was selected to serve the Alzheimer's group. The Alzheimer is  a disease. the disease is mainly caused for the older people. this disease takes place when the function of the brain is reducing. The disease make the power of  memory, behavior and thinking reduce which gets worse as time goes.Basically i will be helping these people to help in their daily life. for example, when we got to visit the Alzheimer community we will be helping cooking food for them and entertaining them. mostly like talking and make them feel alive and happy.
After we were introduced to the Alzheimer service group, we planned what kind of goals we should achieve out of this service group during the next coming up weeks.  next Thursday we will be visiting the foundation of Alzheimer's group to see them and volunteer participating in some of their daily routines.secondly on the 23rd of September we will be spreading awareness in Colombo for the Alzheimer's community. our aim is to walk with banner around Colombo with some other groups and selling out some raffle tickets. since i cannot walk a long way around Colombo because of my Knee injury i volunteered my self to help organized the water bottles and etc at the cinnamon grand.

Goal Setting

Creativity-
During the coming two years of IB  I will be participating  in Model United Nation Program. I would like to represent myself as one of the admins to help coordinate the formation of the UN at the conference. In order to achieve my aim i will have to help to set up the chair, desk and involve myself every practice session of Model United Nations. whenever i can i will be performing a dance during talent show, my aim will be to choreograph a dance and present to the audience to enjoy the creativity of dance. I dance  Bharatha Natyam, Hip Hop, Freestyle, Belly and Bollywood. If possible during small vacations i will be working in my father's office to help him some sort of work to make my mark in the company and help create a difference in and outside my father's company.

Action- 
Unfortunately  i won't  be participating in any kind of sport anytime in life. June 2011 my knee cap dislocated with a piece of cartilage cut off. for the time being the cartilage is damaged and according to the doctor's advise Im asked not to involve myself that requires tiring my leg at least for 6- 8months. the doctor said that if i rush into doing sports i can damage my cartilage and be in need of a knee transplant or a surgery. to reduce the risk of happening it again, Im asked to join the gym 3 times per week (minimum) to strengthen the muscles if i want to go back at least for dancing. since I love dancing  after i get better by going to the gym i will be soon participating in talent shows and school shows to share my talent and the purity of dance. For the time being i will be reflecting how well im going to improve getting my leg better, what kind of exercises i will be doing and how my knee is getting better everything month or so.

Service- 
I serve a community that needs help in health. My aim to use my ideology to find ways to do fund raising projects so we get enough money to give for charity. the community that we will be giving can have the money to treat the patients and get well soon! my second aim will be to see myself interacting with them verbally to understand their feelings about the health issue they have and try to make them feel better about themselves. i would also like if they can help me understand how i should treat and be  towards another person who has the same health issue.  If possible i will be trying my best to work in a hospital during the next summer vacation and get trained on whatever the position I'm selected in. This way it can help me to know about the real world.
